It tends to be shared by methods for distributing in neighborhood paper and school paper or magazines (Doty and Strauss, 1996). The arrangement of individual appraisal of educators is conveyed at the hour of guardians instructors meet directed by the school. In such events, the exhibitions of the educators alongside the understudies are featured (Churchill Community Foundation School, 2003). The strategy of Student Assignment under ‘No Child Left Behind Act’ (NCLB) recognizes that on the off chance that there is appropriate correspondence among school and the home, at that point there will be elevated expectation of scholastic accomplishment of the understudies. The school authority may direct meeting among them so that there is an important correspondence between guardians just as instructors and understudies (Public Education Network, 2004). At that point strategy of ‘bullying and harassment’ is basic to be imparted to educators and guardians alongside understudies. Appropriate method of correspondence is expected to mindful each gatherings in regards to the issue. A composed report will assist with disseminating the data in regards to the approach to every one of them . The strategy with respect to web and innovation get to is conveyed so every one may comprehend the standards of utilizing such innovation in school. The understudies and educators are commonly educated in schools with composed notification and guardians are essentially imparted by giving records in either school paper or uncommon letter for guardians (Wallsend Campus, 2011). 3.0 Implementation and Monitoring of Policy The approaches of these issues are actualized just as checked in a deliberate way. The arrangement is executed by more significant position authority of the schools because of the advancement of specific issues in schools. The strategies are executed subsequent to looking at the precise issues that has occurred and the particular arrangements that may lessen such issues. The staff from the upper degree of chain of importance of the school reserve the option to actualize the arrangements since they have to consider the government assistance of the school, understudies and resources (California State University, n.d.). Strategy observing for the most part identifies with the support of arrangements after it has been applied. It additionally alludes to the route through which the arrangement is working viably. The higher specialists screen cautiously whether the executed approaches are in an appropriate manner and whether the educators, understudies and guardians are submitting to the set

Various Genetic Disorders Essays - Cytogenetics, Free Essays

Different Genetic Disorders Essays - Cytogenetics, Free Essays Different Genetic Disorders Different Genetic Disorders Changes in human chromosomes or the cancellation of a significant quality item are regularly because of a transformation, which can spring a bounteous strand of hereditary transformations and ill-advised coding. Changes can spring from erasure, duplication or reversal of a chromosome. This inappropriate cancellation is the factor that prompts difficulties and at last hereditary issue. Turner Syndrome and Cat-cry Syndrome are the two modifications of chromosome structure because of erasure. In Turner Syndrome, there is a missing X chromosome and in the Cat-cry Syndrome chromosome-18 has been lost or erased. Other hereditary issue that offer ascent to conversation are point changes which incorporate Sickle cell frailty, Maternal PKU and the hereditary issue of The D1 Trisomy disorder. Turner Syndrome was depicted first by Turner in 1938 (Jack H. Hung 1989 p.45) and it was built up that this issue was because of the cancellation of a X chromosome in 1959 by Ford, Jones, Polani, de Ameida and Briggs. The most dominating attributes of the individuals who have this issue comprise of being short, having neck webbing with a low hairline and having a broadly dispersed chest. Turner Syndrome sickness is definitely not a deadly infection as long as there is the executives of conceivable heart issues and ovarian brokenness. Early help and guiding are the key in managing mental issues that may emerge, for example, fruitlessness and potential hearing misfortune. Feline cry Syndrome is another erasure issue in which inhibitor endures very well. Lejeune perceived this issue in 1964 and he gave it the official name of La Maladie du Cri-du-Chat. The physical attributes are clear in this issue. There is a round moon-face, a low birth weight and a transverse palmar wrinkle. At the point when newborn children are conceived, it is their cry that stands apart the most. It epitomizes a mournful shrill cry, powerless, and with a trace of stridor that seems like that of a feline (Valtine 1969 p.113). This cry is the consequence of little vocal ropes and a bended epiglottis. As these newborn children become more seasoned their voice will inevitably extend and turn out to be increasingly typical. The chromosome cancellation is a piece of the short arm of a B bunch chromosome. It appears that the erasure comes to fruition as a possibility setback, a break and afterward a misfortune at anaphase (Valtine 1969 p.114). Sickle cell malady is another turmoil yet isn't brought about by the cancellation of a chromosome. Rather there is an anomalous kind of hemoglobin S that is acquired as an autosomal acquired attribute. This illness produces constant pallor, which may become perilous when hemolytic emergencies (the breakdown of redblood cells) or aplastic emergencies (bone marrow neglects to deliver platelets) happen (wcu.edu/library/on the web/index.htm). The rate of this issue is 1/400 African Americans and 8/100,000 individuals. The indications of this sickness are an aftereffect of the delicacy and rigidity of the sickle red bloodcells. At the point when presented to an absence of water, contamination, and low oxygen flexibly, these sensitive red platelets take the state of a bow. This at that point causes platelet annihilation and thickening of the blood. Sickle cell paleness can possibly be hazardous and can influence other body frameworks and parts of the body. Those included are the sensory system, bones, the kidneys and the liver. Maternal PKU is a hereditary issue that comes from point change. 1/15,000 individuals succumb to the confusion. Phenylketonuria (PKU) has been appeared as a reason for impediment in baby embryos. Kids in the embryo start with a typical measure of phenylalanine hydroxylase yet are influenced by the mother's raised phenylalanine level because of the lopsidedness of pre-birth amino corrosive (Kenneth Lyons Jones, M.D. 1988). Mental lack is plainly apparent in clutter and for the most part comprises of I.Q.s of 50. There are visit gentle indications of brokenness and there are mellow attributes of a round face, flimsy upper lip, a little improved nose and a disfigured maxilla. Intermittent variations from the norm that are every now and again connected with this issue are sacral spine oddities, congenital fissure and crabbiness. The D1 Trisomy Syndrome is an uncommon terrible infection that happens during the hour of earliest stages. Just barely over twelve cases on record. This conclusion can regularly be made during childbirth because of the steady variations from the norm. The infant is delicate, weak, and

Scientific Thinking And The Scientific Method Philosophy Essay

Logical Thinking And The Scientific Method Philosophy Essay The logical strategy is a way that permits us to legitimize logical information and choose whether the data we are given is dependable or not. Things being what they are, what is dependable information? In Scientific Thinking and the Scientific Method, Steven D. Schaferman specifies Reliable Knowledge will be information that has a high likelihood of being genuine in light of the fact that its veracity has been legitimized by a dependable strategy. For instance, individuals have their own insight and convictions; in any case, not all people groups information and convictions are dependably evident. Along these lines, logical reasoning guides individuals to decide whether their insight is dependable and supported. To illustrate, researchers practice logical deduction so as to find the globe and nature; all things considered, logical reasoning isn't just for researchers. Truly, when one practices the strategies for logical reasoning, one is rehearsing basic reasoning. Schaferman says C ritical reasoning is thinking accurately for oneself that effectively prompts the most dependable responses to questions and answers for issues. Clearly, information isn't restricted to the investigation of nature, however to all parts of life and society. Indeed, the logical technique end up being the best and solid strategy for speculation in mankind's history. Therefore, logical reasoning and basic reasoning are being educated at schools. In reality, on the off chance that you ace their abilities, you will reach to dependable resolutions and think effectively Schafersman says. The logical technique is made out of three things: observation, realism, and doubt. These segments are viewed as central to logical and basic reasoning. Experimentation is the utilization of exact proof which is proof that is helpless to ones faculties, for example, seeing, hearing, contacting, tasting, and smelling. The significance of exact proof is that it is testable by others. Subsequently, your cases are tried by others and yourself. Be that as it may, there is a great deal of proof that are not considered as experimental proof because of their lack of quality. Tribute proof, impactful proof, and phantom proof, proof showed by extraordinary entitles, are instances of questionable proof. In actuality, tyrant proof is solid just if the authority is dependable. In this way, one must check if the authority is dependable; besides, experimental proof, basic reasoning, and sensible thinking ought to be approved before considering the power solid. Notwithstanding, Schafersman says you should be your own position and depend on your forces of basic reasoning. Be that as it may, we cannot get legitimate instruction without relying upon de finitive proof. To illustrate, we gained from our folks to tune in and obey specialists; people groups that depended on specialists choices had a higher level of endurance and it is the most precise and snappiest in passing data. Naturalism, then again, is experimental proof. Schafersman cites the universe exists as science says it does.' Indeed, there is a solid bond among science and normal proof. To summarize, observational proof is urgent in light of the fact that in addition to the fact that it makes individuals see what you guarantee so as to be solid, yet additionally it makes you practice the logical strategy. Realism, then again, is another strategy for rehearsing the logical technique. Realism is characterized as the act of consistent thinking. Truth be told, rationale permits the individual to reason accurately. For example, basic masterminds and researchers utilize consistent thinking. Be that as it may, consistent thinking isn't effortlessly learned. To expand, researchers and basic masterminds went through years learning and rehearsing coherent thinking since it expects you to battle with your will. The truth of the matter is legitimate thinking powers the individual to deny his sentiments which is excruciating. Lamentably, individuals interface sensible prevailing upon impractical, passionate, and cheerful reasoning. Accordingly, individuals must figure out how to think sensibly and the most ideal approach to it is by considering instructive courses that compels you to utilize rationale. Truly Practice makes great. To wrap things up, wariness is the last key of rehearsing the logical technique. The scrutinizing of your cases and ends in basic Schafersman says. He additionally expounds that great researchers their contentions, and proof. One must scrutinize the dependability of information. For example, one can test his convictions against target reality by expectation the result. In the event that your suppositions are right, your convictions are solid information. The truth of the matter is that numerous individuals guarantee that doubters are shut disapproved, however they are most certainly not. Doubters decrease to change their convictions with the exception of if there is solid proof to what individuals guarantee. Be that as it may, if there are solid proof to claims against their convictions, they change their feeling. Unquestionably, one must choose what to accept and what not to accept. Experimentation, logic, and distrust are the keys of utilizing the logical strategy; be that as it may, perceptions, information, and hypotheses are significant, yet are not parts of the logical technique. In reality, rehearsing the logical strategy is essential. Initial, one ought to pose an inquiry wherein it can have an answer. At that point, one should accumulate data so as to respond to his inquiry. A while later, he proposes arrangements which is called speculation. Therefore, he analyzes these speculations. In the event that it is right, at that point his data is solid. On the off chance that it comes up short, he should alter or change his theory. At last, one must develop backing to his hypothesis. Surely, the logical technique encourages us in recognizing dependable information not at all like some other strategy.

Theory of Mind and Autism Research Paper - 2750 Words

Theory of Mind and Autism (Research Paper Sample) Content: Theory of Mind and AutismStudentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s NameInstitution AffiliationABSTRACTInsufficient time, since the situation was initially branded in 1943, a variety of concepts, has been put forward to describe the appearance, servicing, and treatment of autism. There is often debate about this place, as different paradigms often don't agree about the etiology of autism and its following treatment. This document reviews and analyzes conceptualizations of autism in accordance with the psychoanalytic and intellectual paradigms, discovering individual concepts within these designs such as inadequate primary coherence, concept of thoughts, professional operate autistic recognition, pushes and connection in autism, and fridge mom theory. The intellectual and psychoanalytic designs techniques to treatment and their following efficiency are also analyzed, and concern is given to disputes in the processing of this persistent developing problem. It is determined in accordance with the available literary works that the psychodynamic design focuses on the appearance and causes of autism, whereas the intellectual model is more involved with the servicing of the problem and its intellectual repercussions and signs, while neither gives adequate concern to its treatment.IntroductionEmpathy has been described as they generate to recognize and react appropriately to feelings and psychological declares in others. It performs an important part in romantic connections and allows an individual to appear sensible of an estimate the behavior of another. Empathy includes both the capability to acknowledge and comprehend feelings in others as well as an active reaction to anotherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s psychological condition, respectively intellectual and psychological empathy.Autism variety circumstances include understanding failures and are classified by interaction and public complications as well as recurring behaviors or limited passions. Concern malfunction in autism has been c onfirmed via research observing a concept of mind incapacity in kids with autism. That is, those people with autism have problems studying the values and objectives of others. Theory of Mind is often used interchangeably with intellectual empathy, viewpoint taking and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"mentalizingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬. However, as mentioned above, understanding has long been described as a multifactorial build such as not only the reflection of anotherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s psychological condition but also an active reaction.Autism is a persistent developing problem classified by failures in public behavior and interaction and uncommon and limited, recurring actions (APA, 2000). Since Kanner first branded and described the situation in 1943, there has been a variety of efforts to explain this problem. Two essential paradigms that have created efforts are the intellectual and the psychodynamic model. This document will examine and seriously assess the participation that these designs have set up to the kno wing of the appearance, servicing, and treatment of autism. The Cognitive Model and AutismSince its rise to popularity in recent decades, the intellectual design has provided significantly to the knowing of autism. Autism is classified not only by public failures but also by failures in intelligent management, with most autistic kids having problems in at least one place of intellectual performing (Szelag et al., 2004). Cognitive signs and public signs may overlap and be relevant to one another; the public lack seen in autism is proportional to the level of general intellectual operated. Cognitive "scripts" of particular activities and the regular procedures around them have been discovered to be lacking in autism, especially with regards to programs for public workouts, which may concern for a variety of the public failures noticed. The most typical perspective of autism is that it is mainly a lack of interaction capabilities, with failures such as stereotyped discussions, echolia, a nd a deficiency of knowledge of metaphors and non-verbal behavior. Autistic people are inadequate at keeping in mind spoken sounds, which may describe the limited interest to comments and the lack of capability to infer psychological significance from comments. Autistic people also have trouble identifying mental expression. Autistic kids also have irregular neurological feedback, in particular developing different neurological methods, and considering and passions are firm, with inadequate conceptual thinking.Cognitive growth in autismA variety of computational designs of autism have been developed to describe the procedures involved in the irregular intellectual growth of autism. Such models have been used to recommend that only one mental incapacity beginning in life can cause to an array of issues along the intellectual developing process, eventually leading to the collection of intellectual failures known as autism. Concentrating on the intellectual growing process of autism ca n cause to a greater understanding with regards to causes and prospective treatment, as a variety of intellectual factors have been discovered to estimate long-term outcome. It has been recommended that autism is a mixture of a variety of intellectual problems. However, there are three primary mental concepts of autism which will be analyzed in this paper; inadequate central coherence, lacking the concept of thoughts, and professional malfunction.Central coherenceThe inadequate primary integration concept of autism indicates that signs seen in autism are due to a style of knowledge known as inadequate central consistency. This represents a limited capability to comprehend the perspective in which activities occur, and lack of ability to see the "big picture." It is the outcome in autistic people taking things mainly, such as not being able to comprehend metaphors or sarcasm. Computational designs have used the concepts of inadequate primary coherence to concern for both the inapprop riate generalization and inadequate perspective handling seen in autism. The weak central sense seems to be an individual aspect in autistic knowledge. However, it may not be relevant to the behavioral signs of the problem as inadequate primary coherence is not appropriate to either public proficiency or harshness of signs.Theory of mind"Theory of mind" represents the capability to infer what others are considering so that it is possible to estimate their behavior (HappÃÆ', 1999). Baron-Cohen (1995) initially recommended that autistic people do not have this essential aspect of public knowledge. They cannot tell what others are considering, hence the reason they do not react to facial expression or modulation of voice. According to Baron-Cohen (1995), a deficiency of a concept of thoughts is the primary intellectual component of autism and can describe a variety of the visible public inadequacies in autism, such as low levels of public eye contact. This deficiency of a concept of t houghts has been discovered continually in autism and has been recommended to be essential in the cause of the problem. However, others have recommended that it does not concern for all of the failures noticed. HappÃÆ' et al. (2001) claim that the concept of thoughts matter of autism is useful in describing many of the public and interaction failures noticed. However, it cannot concern for other signs such as recurring behaviors and limitation of passions. Furthermore there is proof that a deficiency of a concept of thoughts cannot describe all of the lack public behavior in autism; for example it has been proven that coaching to enhance concept of ideas does not improve general capabilities. Thus, it may be that idea of ideas is a critical facet in the intellectual factors of autism; however, it is unlikely to concern for the variety of signs associated with the problem.Executive functionOzonoff et al. (1991, 1994) first recommended the professional malfunction design for autism. "Executive function" represents the complicated intellectual capabilities used to management action and motor coordination, in particular in uncommon circumstances. Included in this, therefore, is planning behavior, monitoring behavior, using working storage, and suppressing automatic responses. This design has been used to describe efficiently a variety of signs, in particular, such professional incapacity can concern for the recurring and limited behavior seen in autistic kids. Cognitive moving, an important aspect of professional operate, has been discovered to estimate inadequate public capabilities in maturity and is the only aspect that can expect improved general intellect in autistic people. However, while professional malfunction can describe individual failures, it cannot concern for the places of knowledge that are unchanged or superior.Cognitive treatmentCognitive accounts of autism have cause to a variety of intellectual techniques to its treatment. A variety tries to e nhance the neurological irregularities in autistic kids, with essential treatment being hearing incorporation coaching those efforts to reduce delicate hearing. This has been recommended to enhance a variety of intellectual failures such as storage and terminology understanding, though others only support very limited or no benefits. Due to the characteristics of autism Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) has not been considered to be appropriate, however proof indicates that an alteration of CBT techniques may be useful for the treatment of autism. A variety of factors of intellectual performing such as mental moving and primary coherence have been discovered to estimate long-term outcome, yet have not been used to treatment programs despite having significant perspective. Enhancing public performing is one of the most essential objectives with regards to the treatment of autism; while individual therapies have been discovered to have a p...

How I would like to be remembered - Free Essay Example

Having a family that stands by you is an awesome thing. When your family understands you better than anyone else you can conquer even the worst ever storm. This is very essential in a human life you ought to have the people who back you up to chase and live your star, the sincere friends we have can be the best source of motivation when you feel down trodden, together you form a team that is united. Then with a community which is supportive to your team it can be the most exciting thing. I draw my motivation on how a supportive community is vital in life from a football pitch which is full of fans from different backgrounds united for their team against their rivals regardless of their age, race or origin. When we are backed up by the community in our endeavors it would be easier to achieve them. I spend most of my time with my family in our ranch tendering the animals and maintaining their hygiene in the sheds, I developed this strong chemistry with animals in a tender age. My father was renown veterinary and he bought me my first horse at my fifth birthday, I breed the horses too and added the number of horses in the ranch to twenty six. This is the highest number of horses in my county to be owned by a private ranch. I have won accolades for the ranch for parading the best and healthy bull in the show for a record of ten times. I would therefore like them to remember me as the best cowboy who ever existed. Similarly, I spend a lot of time with my friends whereby we engage in a lot of activities in the community. However, in many times we were found in problems for misbehaving. We had a local football team which we had named after an American icon Martin Luther football team; we were the team to beat in the area. The team was well organized and we were soon assimilated to the national division two league. We occasionally staged charity plays in the public theater; the money collected from tickets was distributed to the poor in our community as a way of showing appreciation for their support for our team. We were honored by the Governor for our efforts to uplift the lives of our community members. I would therefore want them to remember me as their most able captain and their leader. The environment is an essential part of the ecosystem which is should be taken care of and jealously guarded with all might to stop the carnage of global warming. I have reached out to them through forums and educated them on the importance of trees. We appointed every 3rd of August every year as the community tree planting day, which has borne fruits so far we have reclaimed forty eight hectares of forest farm from illegal cultivators. We have organized concerts with local celebrities whereby the money collected has being used to fence the forest in order to avoid the man animal conflict. I would therefore like to be remembered as the greatest environmentalist to live in the community. I would therefore spend the time am out of class to create awareness on our ecosystem and give alternative ways on how to take care of the environment without endangering the lives of the other organisms. Ii would be the greatest pleasure to participate in a charity football game which helps raise awareness about our environment and the wildlife.

How Quantum Levitation Works

Some videos on the internet show something called quantum levitation. What is this? How does it work? Will we be able to have flying cars? Quantum levitation as it is called is a process where scientists use the properties of quantum physics to levitate an object (specifically, a superconductor) over a magnetic source (specifically a quantum levitation track designed for this purpose). The Science of Quantum Levitation The reason this works is something called the Meissner effect and magnetic flux pinning. The Meissner effect dictates that a superconductor in a magnetic field will always expel the magnetic field inside of it, and thus bend the magnetic field around it. The problem is a matter of equilibrium. If you just placed a superconductor on top of a magnet, then the superconductor would just float off the magnet, sort of like trying to balance two south magnetic poles of bar magnets against each other. The quantum levitation process becomes far more intriguing through the process of flux pinning, or quantum locking, as described by Tel Aviv University superconductor group in this way: Superconductivity and magnetic field [sic] do not like each other. When possible, the superconductor will expel all the magnetic field from inside. This is the Meissner effect. In our case, since the superconductor is extremely thin, the magnetic field DOES penetrates. However, it does that in discrete quantities (this is quantum physics after all! ) called flux tubes.Inside each magnetic flux tube superconductivity is locally destroyed. The superconductor will try to keep the magnetic tubes pinned in weak areas (e.g. grain boundaries). Any spatial movement of the superconductor will cause the flux tubes to move. In order to prevent that the superconductor remains trapped in midair. The terms quantum levitation and quantum locking were coined for this process by Tel Aviv University physicist Guy Deutscher, one of the lead researchers in this field. The Meissner Effect Lets think about what a superconductor really is: its a material in which electrons are able to flow very easily. Electrons flow through superconductors with no resistance, so that when magnetic fields get close to a superconducting material, the superconductor forms small currents on its surface, canceling out the incoming magnetic field. The result is that the magnetic field intensity inside  of the surface of the superconductor is precisely zero. If you mapped the net magnetic field lines it would show that theyre bending around the object. But how does this make it levitate? When a superconductor is placed on a magnetic track, the effect is that the superconductor remains above the track, essentially being pushed away by the strong magnetic field right at the tracks surface. There is a limit to how far above the track it can be pushed, of course, since the power of the magnetic repulsion has to counteract the force of gravity. A disk of a type-I superconductor will demonstrate the Meissner effect in its most extreme version, which is called perfect diamagnetism, and will not contain any magnetic fields inside the material. Itll levitate, as it tries to avoid any contact with the magnetic field. The problem with this is that the levitation isnt stable. The levitating object wont normally stay in place. (This same process has been able to levitate superconductors within a concave, bowl-shaped lead magnet, in which the magnetism is pushing equally on all sides.) In order to be useful, the levitation needs to be a bit more stable. Thats where quantum locking comes into play. Flux Tubes One of the key elements of the quantum locking process is the existence of these flux tubes, called a vortex. If a superconductor is very thin, or if the superconductor is a type-II superconductor, it costs the superconductor less energy to allow some of the magnetic field to penetrate the superconductor. Thats why the flux vortices form, in regions where the magnetic field is able to, in effect, slip through the superconductor. In the case described by the Tel Aviv team above, they were able to grow a special thin ceramic film over the surface of a wafer. When cooled, this ceramic material is a type-II superconductor. Because its so thin, the diamagnetism exhibited isnt perfect ... allowing for the creation of these flux vortices passing through the material. Flux vortices can also form in type-II superconductors, even if the superconductor material isnt quite so thin. The type-II superconductor can be designed to enhance this effect, called enhanced flux pinning. Quantum Locking When the field penetrates into the superconductor in the form of a flux tube, it essentially turns off the superconductor in that narrow region. Picture each tube as a tiny non-superconductor region within the middle of the superconductor. If the superconductor moves, the flux vortices will move. Remember two things, though: the flux vortices are magnetic fieldsthe superconductor will create currents to counter magnetic fields (i.e. the Meissner effect) The very superconductor material itself will create a force to inhibit any sort of motion in relation to the magnetic field. If you tilt the superconductor, for example, you will lock or trap it into that position. Itll go around a whole track with the same tilt angle. This process of locking the superconductor in place by height and orientation reduces any undesirable wobble (and is also visually impressive, as shown by Tel Aviv University.) Youre able to re-orient the superconductor within the magnetic field  because your hand can apply far more force and energy than what the field is exerting. Other Types of Quantum Levitation The process of quantum levitation described above is based on magnetic repulsion, but there are other methods of quantum levitation that have been proposed, including some based on the Casimir effect. Again, this involves some curious manipulation of the electromagnetic properties of the material, so it remains to be seen how practical it is. The Future of Quantum Levitation Unfortunately, the current intensity of this effect is such that we wont have flying cars for quite some time. Also, it only works over a strong magnetic field, meaning that wed need to build new magnetic track roads. However, there are already magnetic levitation trains in Asia which use this process, in addition to the more traditional electromagnetic levitation (maglev) trains. Another useful application is the creation of truly frictionless bearings. The bearing would be able to rotate, but it would be suspended without direct physical contact with the surrounding housing so that there wouldnt be any friction. There will certainly be some industrial applications for this, and well keep our eyes open for when they hit the news. Quantum Levitation in Popular Culture While the initial YouTube video got a lot of play on television, one of the earliest popular culture appearances of real quantum levitation was on the November 9 episode of Stephen Colberts The Colbert Report, a Comedy Central satirical political pundit show. Colbert brought scientist Dr. Matthew C. Sullivan from the Ithaca College physics department. Colbert explained to his audience the science behind quantum levitation in this way: As Im sure you know, quantum levitation refers to the phenomenon whereby the magnetic flux lines flowing through a type-II superconductor are pinned in place despite the electromagnetic forces acting upon them. I learned that from the inside of a Snapple cap.He then proceeded to levitate a mini cup of his Stephen Colberts Americone Dream ice cream flavor. He was able to do this  because they had placed a superconductor disk within the bottom of the ice cream cup. (Sorry to give up the ghost, Colbert. Thanks to Dr. Sullivan for speaking with us about the science behind this article!)

Kids Activity Make Your Own Metal Detector at Home

Any child who has seen a metal detector in action knows how exciting it is when you find some buried treasure. Whether it’s real treasure or just a coin that fell out of someone’s pocket, its a source of excitement that can be harnessed for learning. But professional-grade metal detectors and even build-your-own metal detector kits can be expensive. You may be surprised to learn that your child can make her metal detector with just a few, easy-to-find items. Try this experiment! What Your Child Will Learn Through this activity, she will gain a simple understanding of how radio signals work. Learning how to amplify those sound waves results in a basic metal detector. What Youll Need A small, battery-powered portable radio with AM and FM bandsA small, battery-operated calculator (not a solar-powered one)Working batteries for both devicesDuct tape How to Make Your Own Metal Detector Switch the radio to the AM band and turn it on. It’s likely your child hasnt seen a portable radio before, so let her examine it, play with the dials and see how it works. Once she’s ready, explain to her that a radio has two frequencies: AM and FM.Explain that AM is the abbreviation for the â€Å"amplitude modulation† signal, a signal that combines audio and radio frequencies to create a sound signal. Since it uses both audio and radio, it’s very prone to interference, or signal blocking. This interference is not optimal when it comes to playing music, but its a great asset for a metal detector.Turn the dial as far to the right as possible, making sure to find only static and not music. Next, turn up the volume as high as you can stand it.Hold the calculator up to the radio so that they are touching. Align the battery compartments in each device so that they are back-to-back. Turn on the calculator.Next, holding the calculator and radio together, find a m etal object. If the calculator and radio are aligned correctly, you will hear a change in the static that sounds sort of like a beeping sound. If you don’t hear this sound, slightly adjust the position of the calculator on the back of the radio until you do. Then, move away from the metal, and the beeping sound should revert to static. Tape the calculator and the radio together in that position with the duct tape. How Does It Work? At this point, youve made a basic metal detector, but you and your child may still have some questions. This is a great learning opportunity. Start the conversation by asking her some questions, such as: What type of things does the metal detector react strongly to?Which things don’t cause a reaction? Why wouldnt this work if the radio was playing music instead of static? The explanation is that the circuit board of the calculator emits a barely detectable radio frequency. Those radio waves bounce off metal objects and the AM band of the radio picks up and amplifies them. That’s the sound you’re hearing when you get close to metal. Music being transmitted over the radio would be too loud for us to hear the radio signal interference.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger - 654 Words

Is this book about baseball? Is the main character an outfielder? Do I really have to read all of it, or can I use SparkNotes? These were the first questions that came to my mind when I received the first assignment notice that we would be reading The Catcher in the Rye for English class. The title is most likely the single most important word choice that the author must make. J.D. Salinger uses the title in the book to allude to more than just when Holden sees the young child singing. J.D. Salingers title, The Catcher in the Rye, alludes to the conflict Holden faces of sexuality when growing up. The first reference made to the title of the book is when Holden is found in his usual setting of roaming the streets of Manhattan depressed. He passes by a family that is leaving church. When he walks by he notices the little boy is singing If a body catch a body coming through the rye. For a moment, this makes Holden not so depressed because he is a fan of little children and their innocen ce to the world. The references to the title of the book disappear until a few chapters later when Phoebe corrects Holden that it is if a body meets a body. She also corrects him on the fact that it is not a song, but rather a poem written by Robert Burns. Delving deeper, I looked at the entire poem by Robert Burns. The poem reads as the following: Coming thro the Rye (1796) Coming thro the rye, poor body, Coming thro the rye, She draiglet a her petticoatie Coming thro theShow MoreRelatedThe Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Trend of People Towards Fast Food Consumption free essay sample

Hamza Shahid Department of management sciences Institute of management sciences (Pak-AIMS) Lahore, Pakistan [emailprotected] com Abstract- The study has been to find out the business opportunity in fast food industry and the factors associated with its expansion at such a rapid face. The study has revealed such valuable factors associated with the fast food consumption and fast food business which provide us with significant proof to invest in the fast food business. The study is exploratory in nature. This is an applied research which has given positive sign for the investment in the fast food business. Introduction Today in the 21st century the life is so fast paced that people even do not have the time for making themselves proper meals at homes. This has also taken people away from healthy food and hygienic food consumption. This fast paced life style has lead people towards adapting new ways of eating. It has also changed the culture of the country; people are significantly indulged in consumption of fast food. People are tilted towards consuming fast food because it involves less hustle and is easy to get. This is the point where fast food industry has grown and many large brands like Hardies, McDonalds, KFC and many other local brands have entered the industry in Pakistan. With the intervention of these fast food companies entering in the market it has turned fast food business into a golden opportunity for investment and to earn more and more profit. This research work is carried to identify the factors that are pivotal towards the growth in fast food industry in Pakistan. The focus of the study is to find out the most important factors that are associated with success of fast food industry in Pakistan. The research will also identify the factors that has made this business such a great success mantra in the country. Secondly the literature showed that significant level of increase in the restaurants in Lahore city. The number of increased restaurants in Lahore is a clear signal towards the change. A). Observation â€Å"New restaurants in Lahore† B). Problem definition â€Å"Business opportunity in food industry in Lahore† II. Preliminary Data Gathering The tools that have been used over here are as follows: ? Literature review ? Interviews A). Literature review: The first step towards the data gathering was the literature review. The literature review showed that there is a significant change in the culture of the citizens of Lahore. The literature showed that female induction into the society has played a great role in changing the eating habits of the people. The research work done previously by the students of Pak Aims 081 batch â€Å"Hunter and Kd. † The research report served as the base for this research work. It helped to identify that there is a growing business opportunity. It also showed that there were some factors discussed that were playing a pivotal role in the fast growing fast food business. Secondly the literature showed that significant level of increase in the restaurants in Lahore city. The number of increased restaurants in Lahore is a clear signal towards the change. The literature showed that due to fast paced and busy life people have changed their consumption culture. The reason is that people want convenience. The age group which is from 10 to 35, the targeted for this industry, is almost 60% of total population as shown in the age pyramid. [pic] It is expected that the target age group is going to be doubled till 2020. So there is a lot of room for new business to enter. Then changing trends of people regarding hoteling and social gathering has changed a lot. The major role is played by the presence of women in the education sector and job market. Now almost there is a 60, 40 ratio of men and women studying or working in universities and different organizations. And in coeducation system students who go for hangout with some female friends or some male and female colleagues go out for lunch. Now because of the presence of women they are not going to go to a local restaurant like ‘Fazal Karahi, sardar machli or any other restaurant that is situated in Laxmi Chawk. They are going to go to a more sophisticated place like a fast food restaurant like KFC, McDonald’s or salt pepper. The culture has changed a lot. Now people prefer to go to such sophisticated places in the presence of females B). Interviews: As mentioned above there was no significant literature available about the fast food industry of Pakistan. In order to get the right results and to get unbiased answers informal interviews were conducted so that grave factors associated with this fast growing business can be identified. Informal interviews lead towards the factors that were part of decision making of the people and enabled to determine the situations in which they preferred to consume fast food rather than regular meals. These informal interviews with the people at random places like cafeteria, parking areas class rooms etc. rovided with such factors that were highly associated with the purchase preference. III. Theoretical framework The theoretical framework consists of the following: †¢ Identification of variables †¢ Prioritizing the variables †¢ Thematic diagram †¢ Nature and direction †¢ Logical statement A). Identification of variables: †¢ Gender †¢ Cost of food †¢ Brand à ¢â‚¬ ¢ Market structure †¢ Variety in fast food †¢ Quality of food †¢ Ease of access †¢ Aesthetics †¢ Retail environment †¢ Bundle offers †¢ Economic conditions †¢ Consumer buying power †¢ Time †¢ Social gathering B). Prioritizing the variables: Here we have covered both perspectives: †¢ Consumer side: Bundle offers and Cost of food †¢ Seller side: Brand name and Ease of access [pic] C). Nature and direction †¢ A sale of fast food is directly related to bundle offers with quality playing a mediating role. †¢ Sales and cost of fast food are inversely related with each with market structure playing a mediating role. †¢ Sales and brand name are directly and positive relations with each other. †¢ Sales and ease of access have positive and direct relation. D). Logical statements †¢ If the bundle offers will increase then the sales will increase. If the cost of food will decrease then sales will increase. †¢ If the brand name is catchy than sales will increase. †¢ If ease of access increase then sales will increase. IV. Methodology A). Purpose of Study: It is an exploratory research B). Type of Investigation: It’s correlational because it is about exploring the key factor associa ted with business growth or opportunity in fast food business in Pakistan. C). Extent of Interference: To make sure that there was no biasness in the research it was carefully monitored that there was no personal influence on the research. The research work has no personal ideas that are shared over here. D). Sampling Plan: Data collection has been done through the questionnaire †¢ Quota sampling †¢ Methods used to calculate the statistics was mean, median and mode. E). Unit of analysis: In order to get accurate results it was important to have the views from the fast food business managers. Secondly it helped to gain deeper insight of success mantra of this business in Pakistan. So quota sampling was opted and further the unit of analysis chosen was dyads. Dyads means two groups were selected for the research both were interrelated to the research. It helped to study the pattern of the society, facts behind this fast adaption to fast food culture and business practices that are involved in making it grow in such fast pace in Pakistan. F). Study setting: The study was conducted in natural setting as the research was to be unbiased and pure. The reason behind it was to capture the first-hand experience of the people so that it enumerates the exact situation of the business. G). Time Horizon: It is longitudinal because the study is related to a particular time period. The research work has been conducted for the year 2012. The research is valid for the current time period. H). Data analysis: |Variables |Questionnaires results | | |Frequency |Percentage | |Cost |16 |25. 80645161 | |Ease of access |18 |29. 03225806 | |Bundle offers |18 |29. 03225806 | |Brand |10 |16. 12903226 | | |62 |100 | a. The people | | | |prefer to have branded food and look trendy in the society. | | |Another fact that has proved its importance towards the success of the fast | | | |food business in Pakistan is the lack of time by the people for cooking. As | | | |the research was conducted in offices so that accurate result could be | | | |yielded people responses showed that they don’t have enough time to cook food| | | |at home. They said that fast food is easy to get and they can have it any | | | |time of the day even during their work. Schoolgirl was accepted to Yale University because of her love to pizza

Schoolgirl was accepted to Yale University because of her love to pizza How to enter one of the most popular university in the world? Decent school references and excellent certificate go without saying. Although, one can draw the attention of Admission Committee. As we have seen, some students are good at it. American high school student Carolina Williams wrote an essay about her love to Papa John’s pizza and thanks to these 196 words, she unexpectedly became a spotlight. Actually, it was the first thing that came to her mind. Admission Committee of Yale University was very pleased of the teen’s composition and accepted her in college. By the way, Yale University is considered to be one of the best educational institutions. Its graduates were Hilary Clinton, Meryl Streep, and other famous people. I laughed so hard on your pizza essay. I kept thinking that you are the kind of person that I would love to be best friends with, a member of Admission Committee wrote Carolina. For admission to Yale University, a student should write an essay about the thing you really like. Carolina Williams decided to tell about her love to pizza. She orders it every week. The girl wrote in her composition, Accepting those warm cardboard boxes at my front door is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolidation, and joy, Williams and her friends thought it might be rather nice to tell Papa Johns about this funny story. So Carolina wrote on Twitter, â€Å"I just want @PapaJohns to know that I wrote a college essay about how much I love to order their pizza and it got me into Yale†. After that, the pizza restaurant responded her and asked to send the full text of the essay. Papa Johns offered them lots of free pizzas and training in the company. She published the essay’s text and the response from Yale University in her twitter. Admission Committee said that they were roaring with laughter because of William’s essay. The girl was boasted of her extraordinary approach choosing such topic and offered her to study in the college. Williams is going to refuse this proposal because she is planning to apply for Obern University in order not to go far from her home. Also, it is worth noting that the girl performs well at school and is included in 10 best students of her school in all the subjects. Also, Carolina visits a church, works in a library as a volunteer and is a member of several non-governmental organizations. In the future, she is going to manage a business and work in economics.

Tips for Homeschooling Teens

Tips for Homeschooling Teens Homeschooling teens is different than homeschooling younger students. They are becoming adults and crave more control and independence, yet they still need accountability.   I have graduated one student and Im currently schooling two high school students. Following are some tips for homeschooling teens that have worked well in my home. 1. Give them control of their environment. When my kids were younger, they  used to do the majority of their schoolwork at the dining room table. Now that they’re teens, I have only one who still chooses to work there. My son likes to do all of his written work and math at the table, but he prefers to read in his bedroom where he can sprawl across the bed or kick back in his comfy desk chair. My daughter, on the other hand, prefers to do all of her work in her bedroom. It doesn’t matter to me where they work, as long as the work gets done. My daughter also likes to listen to music while she works. Her brother, like me, needs quiet to concentrate. Let your teen have some control over their learning  environment. The couch, the dining room, their bedroom, or the porch swing – let them work wherever they’re comfortable as long as the work is completed and acceptable. (Sometimes a table is more conducive to neat written work.) If they like to listen to music while they work, let them as long as it isn’t a distraction. I do draw the line at watching TV while doing schoolwork. I contend that no one can really concentrate on school and watch TV at the same time. 2. Give them a voice in their curriculum. If you haven’t already been doing it, the teen years are an excellent time to begin handing the curriculum choices over to your students. Take them with you to the curriculum fairs. Let them ask questions of the vendors. Have them read the reviews. Allow them to choose their topics of study. Sure, you may need to have some guidelines in place, particularly if you don’t have an especially motivated student or one who has a certain college with specific requirements in mind, but there is usually some wiggle room even within those guidelines. For example, my youngest wanted to study astronomy for science this year instead of the typical biology. Colleges often like to see subject diversity and student passion as much as they like to see specific courses and stellar standardized test scores. And college may not even be in your student’s future. 3. Allow them to manage their time. Whether your teens will be entering college, the military, or the workforce after graduation, good time management is a skill they will need throughout life. High school is an excellent opportunity to learn those skills without such high stakes as might be encountered after graduation. Because they prefer it, I give my kids an assignment sheet each week. However, they know that, for the most part, the order in which the assignments arranged are just a suggestion. As long as all of their work is completed by the end of the week, I don’t particularly care how they choose to complete it. My daughter often transfers the assignments from the sheet I provide to her planner, shuffling them around based on her preferences. For example, sometimes she might choose to double up on assignments one day of the week to clear the following day for more free time or she may choose to work in blocks, doing a few days’ science lessons in one day and a few days in history another. 4. Don’t expect them to start school at 8 a.m. Studies have shown that a teenager’s circadian rhythm is different than a younger kid’s. Their bodies shift from needing to go to sleep around 8 or 9 p.m. to needing to go to sleep around 10 or 11 p.m. instead. This also means that their wake times need to shift. One of the best benefits of homeschooling is being able to adjust our schedules to meet our families’ needs. That’s why we don’t start school at 8 a.m. As a matter of fact, starting at 11 a.m. is a really good day for us. My teens typically don’t begin the bulk of their schoolwork until after lunch. Its not unusual for them to work on school at 11 or 12 at night, after the house is quiet and distractions are few. 5. Don’t expect them to go it alone all of the time. From the time theyre young, we’re working toward developing our students ability to work independently. That doesn’t mean, however, that we should expect them to go it alone all the time as soon as they reach middle or high school. Most teens  need the accountability of daily or weekly meetings to ensure that their work is being completed  and that they’re understanding it. Teens can also benefit from having you read ahead in their books  so that you’re prepared to help if they run into difficulty. It’s frustrating for you and your teen when you have to spend half the day trying to catch up on an unfamiliar topic in order to help them with a difficult concept. You may need to fill the role of tutor or editor. I plan time each afternoon for helping my teens with their arch nemesis, math. I have also served as editor for writing assignments, marking misspelled words or grammar errors for corrections or making suggestions on how to improve their papers. It’s all part of the learning process. 6. Embrace their passions. I am a huge fan of using the high school years to allow teens to explore their passions and give them elective credit for doing so. As much as time and finances will allow, provide your teen with opportunities to explore their interests. Look for opportunities in the form of local  sports and  classes, homeschool groups and co-ops, online courses, dual enrollment, and non-credit continuing education classes. Your kids may try an activity for a while and decide it’s not for them. In other cases, it could turn into a lifelong hobby or career. Either way, each experience  allows for growth opportunity and a better self-awareness for your teen. 7. Help them find opportunities to serve in their community. Help your teen discover volunteer opportunities that mesh with their interests and abilities. The teen years are a prime time for young people to begin becoming activity involved in their local community in meaningful ways. Consider: Volunteering at a nursing home, kids’ program, homeless shelter, or animal shelterInterning or volunteering opportunities at local businessBecoming involved in local or state politicsUsing their talents to serve others (such as painting sets for a community theater, playing an instrument at your place of worship, or taking back-to-school photos for your homeschool group) Teens may grumble about service opportunities at first, but most of the kids I know find that they enjoy helping others more than they thought they would. They enjoy giving back to their community. These tips can help you prepare your teens for life after high school and help them discover who they are as individuals.

Point of View 1 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Point of View 1 - Essay Example Every night we were to pay tribute to the Seth in the price of blood and sweat. We receive our rest during the day, since we cannot work under the extreme heat. Sometimes they would call us into the Hall to punish us or reward us but that all depends on how well our work is done. We thought that Seth would set us free from bondage, but that was just a lie. Seth had various markings on his skin – all of it are numbers that seem cryptic to understand. One time, I happen to walk in a dark area and saw Seth approaching me. He was wearing a cloak and a long dress but that did not prevent me from seeing his sharp claws. The next thing I knew, my face was bloodied as I ran away. Seth is an evil force that hates mortal beings. I should have been warned by my friend Sebastian. Before the great inferno thousands of years ago, the world lived among millions working together; to provide a general well-being for all of its inhabitants. That is what the north is trying to accomplish, and ye t they are doing it dreadfully wrong. My friend, Sebastian, told me he had found some relics that could reveal the truth about the past. We did not understand the scriptures but their message was clear. It showed us how we could create a new paradise much like that one of the past.

Managing Successful Projects Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Managing Successful Projects - Assignment Example The project management approach outlines more than 40 processes that are necessary for project management and group the processes into distinct process categories and â€Å"Knowledge areas† (Zarafani 2011, 38). The standard’s process categories are â€Å"initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing† of projects while knowledge bases are â€Å"project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk, and procurement management† (Zarafani 2011, 38). The Knowledge scope has further been extended to include â€Å"project safety, environmental, financial, and claim management† (Zarafani 2011, 38). The approach values project requirements from stakeholders’ perspectives and considers clients’ level of utility, control measures, periodic improvements, and prime management’s initiatives throughout projects. It however deals with a single project at a time (Zarafani 2011, 39). The United Kingdom’s â€Å"Project Management Body of Knowledge,† also known as PM BoK, is another standard approach to project management. The approach is almost a reflection of the United States’ version but identifies 52 subjects that are considered in seven elements of project management. ... ndards, it is distinct and offers elements such as â€Å"customer focus, management responsibility,† role of stakeholders to a project, quality, and periodic improvements during a project’s lifestyle (Zarafani 2011, 40). The â€Å"Competency Standards for Project Management† from Australia is another standard approach to managing project. It derives its basis from the American model but incorporates standards to ensure compliance with professionally approved procedures (Zarafani 2011, 40). PRINCE is another standard approach to project management. It identifies universality in project implementation efforts subject to specified conditions. It must be â€Å"successfully used everywhere,† must be â€Å"robust, internally consistent and free from evident fault,† is clear and easy to understand, and is â€Å"viable,† â€Å"scalable,† and â€Å"relevant† (Roberts 2013, p. 20). I have taken the United States based PRINCE approach. My choice is based on the approach’s constructs that guarantees success and efficiency besides its clarity, simplicity, and predetermined viability, scalability and relevance (Roberts 2013, p. 20). The process of developing an effective project management environment No standardized strategy exists for developing an effective project management environment. Processes for motivating members of a project team can however develop a motivated team and an effective environment for implementing a project. This can however be achieved through a comprehensive approach that meet team members’ needs such as ensuring â€Å"interesting and challenging work,† â€Å"professionally stimulating work environment,† ensuring strong leadership and growth among team members, developing interpersonal potentials, defining responsibility and restricting dynamism of involved

Many of Steinbecks characters are crippled mentally or physically Essay Example for Free

Many of Steinbecks characters are crippled mentally or physically Essay Many of Steinbecks characters are crippled mentally or physically. How far do you agree with this and how far are they made victims of society of the time? Lennie is probably the most obvious character of the book that is mentally crippled. He has brooder slopping shoulders and walks along heavily dragging his feet. Underneath Lennie is a child, he may look like and man but isnt. Like a child Lennie has a fascination of small cuddle, cute things, especially rabbits. I like to pet things with my fingers, sof things. Lennie is also clumsy like a child and on the ranch others see him as a slow worker. George is like a father to Lennie and he looks up to him, and also fully dependant on him. He wont do anything till George says he can, he automatically turns to George in when in any danger, like a child dependant on his mother. Candy is the oldest of the characters and he is physically crippled, as he has lost his right hand as a young boy. He was one of the best workers of the ranch and everyone respected him in his younger days. But he is slowly becoming useless, with only a job of sweeping and has become very lonely with only the companionship of a dog. But soon found friendship in George and Lennie. However this does not stop him from being a nosy character and finds interest in others gossip. Candy loves his dog to pieces, but like candy the dog is getting old and weak, That dog of Candys is so god damn old he cant hardly walk. Candy has had to dog for most of its life, and its the only thing that reminds him of the good days on the ranch. Crooks is the only black man on the ranch and he is crippled physically as he has a bent spine. Considering how hard it was for black men in those days, they were not given any respect at all and were bullied. The people at the ranch were racist towards him. But I cant play cards cause Im black and they say I stink. He is also lonely like Candy and is rejected from the people at the ranch, he has his own cabin and spends most of his time in there on his own. Crooks seems to be a bit sensitive underneath his brave face and takes it all to heart. He trusts no one but himself, because he isnt respected. Though at some times he has a slightly vicious streak, You got no right to come in my room, nobody got any right in here but me. A lot of the people on the ranch take advantage of him because they know they can get away with it. Listen nigger you know what I can do if you dont shut your trap. I think that Crooks knows that people take advantage of him, but he cant fight back. Curlys is the bosses son and he thinks he is a powerfully man. He has a constant eagerness to prove himself. One of his weaknesses is that he doesnt like taller people because they make him feel insecure, threatened and small. Deep down he is a lonely character and is insecure. Curly copies his Dad like Lennie copies George. By taking on the future job of the ranch and has a future not like most of the workers, and wants to become powerful like his Father. Curlys wife plays a small part, though a crucial one. She is the only one of Steinbecks characters that is nameless. In those times it was hard to be a woman and were looked upon as staying at home all day and cooking for the husbands on return. She is a flirt of the ranch, what with being the only woman and the men on the ranch refer to her as a tart. No one really wants to talk to her as they are worried what curly might do if he found out, and this makes her lonely and isolated. Well I think Curleys married a tart. Curlys wife wanted to make something of her life, so she is very disappointed that she hasnt, this can make her feel very viscous. Though still she has the power, like her husband to make people feel small and unimportant, thats why people chose to exclude her on the ranch. She is young and niave and would believe anything she was told. He says he was gonna put me in the movies. Says I was a natural. I think that Steinbeck wrote his characters to be either mentally or physically crippled. He wrote this book to expose all of the racial and sexist prejudice. He succeeded in this by using the right characters and their every day life.
